Brakes and brake fluid

Check the brake pads, discs and fluid regularly. Brake fluid absorbs water over time. That lowers the boiling point, and under hard use the fluid can boil and make the brakes spongy. It should therefore be changed regularly, often every other year. Squealing or weaker braking are signs of worn pads.

tchange≈2 yearst_{\text{change}} \approx 2\ \text{years}usual interval for brake fluid (see the manual)

Example

The brake fluid was changed in spring 2024.

With a change every other year it is due again in spring 2026. Check the manual for your bike.

Brake pads often have a wear mark. Learn where it is so you can see when the pads need replacing.
