Luggage on the motorcycle

High at the back: unstableLow and central
Put heavy loads low and central, in panniers or a tank bag. A heavy load high and far back makes the front light and the bike unstable.

Put heavy luggage low and central, in panniers or a tank bag in front of you, not high up or far back on the rack. Spread the weight evenly on both sides and secure everything so nothing can come loose and end up in the wheel or chain. A tank bag must not hinder steering or your view of the instruments.

Example

You are going camping with a sleeping bag, tent and cooking gear.

Put the heavy cooking gear in a pannier, the tent and sleeping bag on the rack, and tighten everything with straps.

Raise the tyre pressure and adjust the suspension as the manual says, and check that the headlight does not point too high.
