Lines on the road

Yellow markings separate opposite directions, white markings separate lanes in the same direction and mark the edge. A solid line must not be crossed. A broken warning line with long dashes warns of a solid line or danger ahead. With a double line, the line nearest you applies: if it is broken, you may cross.

Example

In the middle of the road there is a solid and a broken yellow line. The broken one is nearest you.

You may cross to overtake when safe, but the oncoming traffic may not.

Shark teeth (triangles across the lane) are the give-way line. Stop there if needed.
