Groups of road signs

Signs fall into groups you recognise by shape and colour. Warning signs are triangles with a red border pointing up. Prohibitory signs are round with a red border. Mandatory signs are round and blue. Information signs are blue rectangles. Give way (triangle pointing down) and stop (octagon) have unique shapes so you recognise them from behind and in snow.

Example

A round sign with a red border and the number 60 is prohibitory: you may not drive faster than 60 km/h.

A round blue sign with an arrow orders you to drive in the arrow's direction.

Temporary signs at roadworks have a yellow background and override the permanent signs.
