Line through the bend

late turn-in
Stay wide until you can see through the bend, then turn in. You see further and keep more margin.

Position yourself to see as much as possible and to be seen. Before a left-hand bend, move out to the right to see further round, and keep well away from the centre line. Before a right-hand bend, move towards the middle of the lane. Wait a little before turning in until you can see through the bend, and you exit within your own lane.

Try it yourself

Speed in a bend and grip

Example

A lorry comes towards you in a left-hand bend.

Keep well away from the centre line. Your body leans in to the left, and the lorry may cut the corner.

Finish braking and changing down before the bend, and keep a steady throttle through it.
