Check before you ride

TyresChainLightsBrakes
Before every ride: tyres (pressure and tread), lights and indicators, brakes, chain (lubricated and correct slack) and no leaks.

A check before every ride takes only a couple of minutes. Look at the tyres (pressure, tread and damage), check that lights, brake light and indicators work, that the brakes feel firm, that the chain is lubricated with the right slack, and that nothing is leaking under the bike. The steering should move freely and smoothly, and the suspension should work.

Example

The brake lever comes almost all the way to the bar before it bites.

Do not ride. There may be air in the brakes or too little fluid. Have it checked first.

If the bars shake, the bike pulls to one side or there are new noises: stop and find the cause.
