Whistleblowing and conflict of interest

Whistleblowing in the workplace means reporting reprehensible conditions, and labour law protects whistleblowers from retaliation. A conflict of interest arises when personal interests could influence a professional judgment, and is often resolved by disclosing it or recusing oneself from the case.

Example

An engineer evaluating a bid from a company owned by a close relative should disclose the conflict of interest and let someone else make the decision.
