Triple bottom line, EPD and greenwashing

The triple bottom line evaluates a business by economic, social and environmental results — "people, planet, profit". An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized document with life cycle data for a product, while greenwashing is giving a misleading impression that something is environmentally friendly.

Example

A company advertising "eco-friendly" without documentation, while the product actually has a high climate footprint, is greenwashing.

An EPD gives verifiable numbers — a general environmental claim in marketing does not.
