Stakeholders and responsible innovation

A stakeholder analysis maps out who is affected by or can affect a project, so all affected parties are considered early. Responsible innovation (RRI) means considering societal and ethical consequences early in development, not just afterwards.

Example

When developing a surveillance system, both users, privacy organizations, and those being monitored should be identified as stakeholders early in the project.

Waiting to consider ethics until the product is finished is too late — it belongs early in the process.
