RC High-Pass Filter

An RC high-pass filter passes high frequencies and attenuates low ones, the opposite of the low-pass filter, and is often used to remove a DC level (AC coupling). The capacitor and resistor simply swap places compared with the low-pass filter, but the corner-frequency formula is the same.

fc=12πRCf_c=\dfrac{1}{2\pi RC}corner frequency of an RC high-pass

Example

R=1R=1 kΩ, C=1C=1 µF:

fc=1/(2π⋅103⋅10−6)≈159f_c=1/(2\pi\cdot10^3\cdot10^{-6})\approx159 Hz.

High-pass and low-pass share the same corner-frequency formula – it is the placement of R and C that decides the type.
