Non-Inverting Amplifier

In a non-inverting amplifier the signal enters directly at the positive input, while RgR_g and RfR_f form a feedback divider to the negative input. The gain is always positive and at least 1, and becomes large only if RgR_g is small compared with RfR_f.

A=1+RfRgA=1+\dfrac{R_f}{R_g}voltage gain, non-inverting amplifier

Symbols

RgR_gresistor to ground from the - inputΩ\Omega
RfR_ffeedback resistorΩ\Omega
AAvoltage gain

Example

Rg=2.2R_g=2.2 kΩ, Rf=22R_f=22 kΩ:

A=1+22/2.2=11A=1+22/2.2=11.

A voltage follower is a special case: Rf=0R_f=0 and Rg→∞R_g\to\infty gives A=1A=1.
