What overrides what?

When signals disagree, follow a fixed order. Police signals override everything. Then come traffic lights, then signs, then road markings, and finally the general rules such as the right-hand rule. If the traffic light is off or flashing amber, the signs apply again.

Example

The light is green, but there is a give-way sign at the junction. The light overrides the sign, so you may go.

If the light flashes amber, the give-way sign applies.

Green means you may go, not that you have priority. Turning left, you still give way to oncoming traffic.
