Positioning before turning
Your position tells others what you are going to do. To turn right, keep close to the right edge. To turn left, move close to the centre line but stay in your own lane. If there are lane arrows, choose the right lane in good time. Good positioning lets traffic behind pass on the correct side and helps oncoming drivers understand your plan.
Example
You are turning left at a junction without lane arrows.
Signal in good time, move close to the centre line and slow down. Give way to oncoming traffic and to pedestrians in the road you turn into.
Decide early. A late lane change just before the junction is dangerous and hard for others to read.
