How heavy a trailer may you tow?

With class B you may always tow a trailer with a permitted total weight up to 750 kg. A heavier trailer is allowed as long as the permitted total weights of car and trailer together are at most 3500 kg. Otherwise you need B96 (up to 4250 kg) or BE. The weights are in the registration certificates. Also check how heavy a trailer the car is approved to tow.

Example

The car has a permitted total weight of 2100 kg and the trailer 1300 kg.

2100+1300=3400≤35002100 + 1300 = 3400 \le 3500, so you may tow it with class B.

With a trailer the braking distance gets longer and turns get wider. Keep a bigger gap, and check the coupling, cable and lights before you set off.
