Eyes off the road

Holding a phone while driving is forbidden, and even a quick glance at a screen means driving a long way blind. Hands-free calls are legal but also take attention. Set up navigation and music before you go, and let messages wait until you have stopped.

s = \dfrac{v_{\text{km/h}}}{3.6} \cdot t

distance driven blind with speed in km/h

Symbols

$v_{\text{km/h}}$	speed	km/h
$t$	time looking away	s

Example

You look at your phone for 2 seconds at 80 km/h.

$s = 80/3.6 \cdot 2 \approx 44$ m blind.

Put the phone out of reach or use do-not-disturb while driving.
