Blood alcohol and burn-off

The drink-driving limit in Norway is 0.2 per mille. The body burns about 0.15 per mille per hour, and nothing speeds it up: not coffee, food, sleep or a cold shower. If you drank a lot the evening before, you may still be over the limit next morning.

Example

You have 1.2 per mille at midnight.

t≈1.2/0.15=8t \approx 1.2/0.15 = 8 hours. You are not sober until about eight o'clock.

If in doubt, do not drive. Many are caught in checks the morning after.
